Jena decides against new New Year's Eve firework ban zones

The city administration of Jena has concluded a review regarding potential new ban zones for private New Year's Eve fireworks. Following a mandate from the city council, officials investigated whether additional spatial restrictions were necessary to protect humans and animals from specific hazards.

The administration determined that the legal and factual requirements for new restrictions are currently not met. The report noted that the presence of sensitive facilities, such as clinics, nursing homes, or nature reserves, does not alone justify blanket bans due to noise, waste, or fine dust concerns. Furthermore, historical data from previous years did not identify specific geographic hotspots for firework-related incidents, as most emergency calls involve small fires or waste bins that are not tied to specific districts.

Instead of implementing new prohibited areas, the city will rely on increased presence from relevant authorities and joint patrols with the police during the New Year's Eve celebrations.
