Jena, Germany witnesses partial solar and near‑total lunar eclipses in August 2026

On 12 August 2026 Jena experienced a partial solar eclipse with about 86.5 % of the Sun obscured, reaching its maximum at 20:11 local time while the Sun was low above the western horizon.

Four days later, on 28 August 2026, a near‑total lunar eclipse peaked at 06:13 with 93 % coverage, followed shortly by moonset.

The month also offered clear views of Venus in the west during twilight and Saturn rising in the east, providing a rich program for amateur astronomers in the region.
