Jena infrastructure: Road closures and repairs underway
Jena is experiencing various road closures and construction projects during the third week of September 2026. Major works include a full closure of Friedrich-Wolf-Straße and Dornburger Straße for railway crossing renewals, and extensive road renovations on Thomas-Mann-Straße, which will involve changing traffic directions.
Other local disruptions include utility work on Tümplingstraße and Wöllnitzer Straße, as well as partial closures on Bundesstraße 7 for tree maintenance. Additionally, parking areas at Eichplatz and Rathausgasse will be closed for the Old Town Festival.
In related infrastructure news, Katharinenstraße has reopened to traffic following repairs to address defects in paving surfaces. The construction company Eiffage Infra-Ost performed the remedial work at its own expense after previous installation errors. While the road is now passable, further work is scheduled for late October to replace trees that failed to thrive during the initial planting.
