Jena nears completion of new bicycle street

The city of Jena is nearing the completion of a new bicycle street spanning Jahnstraße and Talstraße. The project includes new traffic signs, bicycle pictograms, and red markings to clearly indicate the updated traffic flow, which grants priority to cyclists.

According to Ulrike Zimmermann, the city's bicycle traffic officer, the initiative aims to create a safe and attractive connection for cyclists while relieving pressure on Lommerweg and Lutherstraße. This allows Lommerweg to be reserved more for pedestrian use, recreation, and play. The new route is designated with 'residents only' access, meaning local residents and those with specific destinations in the area, such as medical appointments or local businesses, may still use the streets by car, though through traffic and drivers searching for parking are prohibited.
