Jena plans tree removals for Fritz-Ritter-Straße sidewalk expansion

Five trees are scheduled to be removed on Fritz-Ritter-Straße as part of a planned sidewalk expansion project on the west side of the street. The removals are deemed necessary to implement the construction work according to the agreed-upon technical plans.

Among the trees affected are two Norway maples that already show signs of damage and diminished vitality in their crown areas. Officials stated that preserving these trees would significantly complicate or prevent the necessary road and civil engineering works, particularly regarding the installation of new curbs and drainage connections.

A young field maple will also be removed because it stands directly within a planned parking area for vehicles. To compensate for the loss, seven new trees will be planted in the immediate vicinity or nearby suitable locations, utilizing the Stockholm model to ensure adequate root space and protection.
