Jenbacher highlights natural gas potential for Peru's industry

During the Perú Energía Norte 2026 forum, Jenbacher senior applications engineer Gabriel Carmona highlighted the potential for natural gas to reduce costs and emissions within the Peruvian industrial sector. Carmona stated that replacing diesel with natural gas in internal combustion engines could reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by approximately 35%, while substituting coal with gas for electricity generation could lead to a reduction of nearly 50%.

Jenbacher's gas engines can achieve an electrical efficiency of up to 49%. When utilizing cogeneration systems to capture thermal energy for hot water, steam, or industrial heat, total energy efficiency can approach 90%. These engines are versatile, capable of operating connected to the electrical grid, integrating with renewable sources, or functioning independently in remote areas. Additionally, some solutions can reach full capacity in approximately 45 seconds, a feature noted as particularly useful for data centers.

Looking toward future fuels, Carmona noted that the company's engines can be adapted to run on hydrogen. While hydrogen combustion does not directly produce CO2, the total environmental impact remains dependent on the fuel's production and supply methods.
