Jenůfa opera premieres in A Coruña

The Amigos de la Ópera de A Coruña association is launching its lyric season with the Galician premiere of Leoš Janáček’s opera, Jenůfa. The production is a co-production with Ópera Garage and is directed by Emiliano Suárez.

This new production sets the story in 1950s America, focusing on themes of struggle and forgiveness with a female protagonist at the center. The creative team includes scenographer Alfons Flores, costume designer Ana Garay, and lighting designer Luis Perdigueiro, who aim to create a theatrical and realistic atmosphere to complement the operatic language.

The performances will take place at the Palacio de la Ópera, accompanied by the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia and the Coro Gaos. Musical direction is led by guest principal director José Miguel Pérez-Sierra, featuring a cast including Vanessa Goikoetxea and Eliska Weissová.
