Jenifer Yáñez makes history at UTMB Chamonix
Rarámuri runner Jenifer Yáñez has made history by completing the CCC race during the UTMB Week in Chamonix, France. Yáñez, originally from Guachochi, completed the 107.8-kilometer course with a total positive elevation gain of 6,198 meters in a time of 19 hours, 35 minutes, and 31 seconds.
The race route began in Italy, crossed through Switzerland, and concluded in France. Yáñez is part of the first group of athletes from the Rarámuri community to participate in this international competition, alongside runners Mauro Martín Quimare and Reyes Giltro.
Yáñez earned her qualification for the CCC after securing second place in the same category during the 2025 Chihuahua by UTMB event in the Sierra Tarahumara. Quimare and Giltro qualified for the main UTMB race, approximately 177 kilometers, following their performance in the 100-mile category at the Chihuahua event.
