Jenna Bush Hager shares story of discovering George W. Bush’s former engagement

Jenna Bush Hager, co-host of NBC’s ‘Today’, recently shared a personal anecdote regarding a family secret she discovered as a child. While in the third grade, Hager was looking through a memory box with her father, former U.S. President George W. Bush, to find old report cards. Instead, she discovered a wedding announcement for an engagement her father had previously called off.

Hager recalled that the discovery caused her to burst into tears at the time. As an adult, she expressed respect for her father’s decision to end the engagement, noting that it was a difficult choice made when he was young. The former president was previously engaged to his high school sweetheart, Cathryn Lee Wolfman, whom he had dated since their time at Yale University, before eventually marrying Laura Bush.
