Mexico's states expand housing, health and community aid programs

The government of Tamaulipas appointed Germán Fernández Guzmán as director of the Instituto Tamaulipeco de Vivienda y Urbanismo (ITAVU) to continue policies that increase access to decent housing for low‑income families.

In Yucatán, a joint effort by the state DIF, the Federal Public Beneficence and the state beneficence distributed 4,945 hearing aids and 28 specialized Adhear systems to more than 2,500 residents across all 106 municipalities, valued at over 120 million pesos.

The municipal DIF of Zacatlán named Jenni Cruz Cruz as its 2026 ambassador, a role intended to promote solidarity and service to local families.

Guerrero’s governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda delivered property titles to families in Eduardo Neri and formalized ownership of four primary schools in Acapulco through the federal INSUS program, securing legal certainty for the beneficiaries.

Acapulco’s city council, led by mayor Leticia Lozano Zavala, approved a partnership with the federal “Vivienda para el Bienestar” program to facilitate affordable housing for vulnerable residents.

Community organizer Rosario Merlín García, together with local partners and Fonatur, inaugurated a rain‑water capture and storage system for schools and community centers in Acapulco, aiming to improve water resilience amid climate challenges.
