Campbell River advocate shares journey of addiction and recovery
Jennifer Joseph, a peer support advocate in Campbell River, shared her personal journey of addiction and recovery during an International Overdose Awareness Day event at Spirit Square on August 31.
Joseph, a 43-year-old mother and grandmother, spoke about her experience living unhoused for two years while struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. During her time on the streets, she administered Naloxone to others 27 times and was herself revived by the medication on one occasion.
Reflecting on her recovery, Joseph noted that as of August 31, she had achieved 25 days of sobriety. She described her path as a struggle to maintain a mental strength that keeps her focused on her goal of staying clean.
