Jenning de Boo targets 500m world record

Dutch speed skater Jenning de Boo is targeting a new world record in the 500 meters this season. The 22-year-old, who recently became the sprint world champion, aims to break Pavel Koelizjnikov’s 2019 record of 33.61 seconds.

De Boo intends to utilize new KNSB selection rules, which allow skaters to qualify for World Distance Championships via the World Cup circuit rather than the Dutch Championships (NK). This shift would allow him to bypass the NK in late January to focus on preparation for the World Cup in Salt Lake City, a venue known for its fast ice.

In addition to his competitive goals, De Boo has drawn attention with a new helmet design inspired by the ‘Boo’ character from the Mario video game series. The helmet features a stylized ghost with a crown and sharp teeth.
