Jenny Samanez proposes bicycle parking at Peru's Congress

Peruvian Deputy Jenny Samanez, representing the Obras caucus, arrived at the Congress of the Republic by bicycle and announced plans to request dedicated bicycle parking within the legislative headquarters. Samanez noted that this is her fourth time commuting to the Capitol via bicycle, a method she uses to travel from Chorrillos to central Lima.

Citing the Bicycle Law, which suggests a percentage of vehicle parking spaces should be reserved for bicycles, Samanez proposed repurposing part of the existing parking area at the front of the Legislative Palace. She emphasized that this infrastructure would benefit not only lawmakers but also staff and advisors who use bicycles for commuting.

Samanez stated that cycling allows her to save on transit costs, improve her health, and avoid Lima's traffic congestion, estimating a time saving of approximately 19 minutes compared to other transport methods. She also expressed her intention to promote urban mobility initiatives and legislative improvements that consider pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport users.
