Jens Stoltenberg presents 1956 revolution memoirs to Péter Magyar

Former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg presented Péter Magyar with a collection of memoirs written by Dalma, a 92-year-old Hungarian woman living in Norway. The memoirs document Dalma’s experiences during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.

Stoltenberg’s parents, who were 25 at the time, assisted several hundred Hungarian refugees in crossing the Hungarian-Austrian border to reach freedom. The gift includes a handwritten letter in Hungarian. During a recent commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the revolution, Stoltenberg noted that Dalma was present at the Bem statue on October 23, 1956, a pivotal moment in the uprising.

In his commemorative speech, Péter Magyar emphasized the importance of freedom, democracy, and national independence, describing the 1956 revolution as one of the most significant events of the 20th century. The anniversary ceremonies in Budapest were attended by various European leaders, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa.
