Nvidia secures multibillion‑dollar AI factory contracts in Japan

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang spent two days in Tokyo in July 2026 to finalize a series of strategic agreements with Japanese industry. The centerpiece is the Noetra national AI infrastructure project, for which Japan will procure 13,750 Vera CPUs and 27,500 Rubin GPUs, amounting to several billion dollars over a five‑year period of roughly €5.7 billion (about ¥1 trillion). Around 44 Japanese groups, including SoftBank, Sony, NEC, Honda and major robot manufacturers, will collaborate to develop AI‑driven robotics, vehicles and factory automation. The hardware will be used in a new AI data‑center – the Vera‑Rubin factory – slated to be operational by 2028, with an initial 140 MW power capacity. Nvidia will also provide edge AI chips (Cosmos 3 Edge) for integration directly into machines, reinforcing Japan’s push for a domestically anchored, yet Nvidia‑powered, AI ecosystem.
