Jenson Button secures 2009 Formula 1 World Championship

On October 18, 2009, Jenson Button secured the Formula 1 World Championship at the Brazilian Grand Prix, completing a historic season with Brawn GP. The team had been formed following Honda's withdrawal from the sport at the end of 2008, with Ross Brawn acquiring the team for a symbolic £1.

Despite starting the race in 14th position due to a chaotic wet qualifying session, Button climbed through the field to finish fifth. This result was sufficient to clinch the title, even as his teammate Rubens Barrichello, who started from pole position, suffered a puncture that hindered his championship hopes.

In addition to Button's driver title, Brawn GP secured the Constructors' Championship during its only season in Formula 1. The race itself was won by Mark Webber of Red Bull, followed by Robert Kubica and Lewis Hamilton.
