Jeonbuk region hit by heavy rain and flooding

Heavy rainfall has caused widespread flooding and property damage across the Jeonbuk region in South Korea. In Gochang County, intense precipitation reaching up to 60mm per hour caused water levels in the Jujincheon Stream to rise rapidly, prompting emergency evacuation orders for local residents.

Reports indicate significant damage throughout the province, including flooded homes, roads, and businesses. In Gochang, landslides occurred on hillsides near residential areas. As of August 31, Jeonbuk authorities had recorded over 120 damage reports, including 49 instances of road flooding and 26 instances of house flooding.

The Jeonbuk Fire Headquarters has responded to 107 incidents involving fallen trees, road flooding, and drainage support, deploying 434 personnel and 112 pieces of equipment. Authorities have activated a level 2 emergency response, closing approximately 100 locations including parks, trails, and riverside parking lots. Warnings remain in place for potential landslides and further collapses due to weakened ground conditions.
