Jeonbuk universities win top honors at Capstone Design Championship

Universities in the Jeonbuk region achieved significant recognition at the 2026 Industry-Academic Cooperation EXPO Capstone Design Championship held at KINTEX.

Jeonju Kijeon University’s ‘Maumsori’ team won the Grand Prize (Korea Research Foundation Chairman Award) for ‘Mind Photo Lab.’ This non-contact mental health check program uses camera-based software to analyze micro-movements in the head and face to provide stress and tension indicators. Designed for use in healing farms and welfare institutions, the system provides wellness data and connects users to therapeutic activities without requiring physical sensors.

Kunsan National University’s ‘Wiung-Wiung’ team received the Excellence Award for developing a ‘bladeless drone.’ Inspired by bladeless fan technology, the team created a propulsion system that encases propellers within a duct to prevent accidents during urban deliveries. The drone successfully achieved flight heights of 3–4 meters while maintaining over 90% of standard fan thrust. The team has filed a patent for this propulsion technology to expand drone utility in indoor and sensitive environments like hospitals.
