Jeong Cheong-rae Opposes Term Limits in Democratic Party Race

Democratic Party leadership candidate Jeong Cheong‑rae argued that the party should not enforce term‑limit rules for its chair, saying it would be unfair to bar a second term while allowing a single‑term incumbent to run again. He rebuked fellow candidate Song Young‑gil’s suggestion that only a one‑term leader should be permitted, urging the party to avoid such restrictions.

Jeong also stressed party unity after the election, pledging to protect the party’s reformist identity, accelerate a semiconductor cluster in the Honam region, and pursue a swift ethics investigation into a rival’s alleged ties to a controversial religious group. He reiterated support for President Lee Jae‑myung and promised to allocate resources quickly for housing and other policy initiatives.
