Jeonnam and Gwangju sports councils begin merger process

The Jeonnam and Gwangju sports councils have initiated formal administrative procedures to establish a unified sports council following the launch of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City. Both organizations scheduled general assemblies for late January to deliberate on key matters, including the dissolution of their current legal entities, the establishment of an integration preparation committee, and the succession of rights, assets, and business operations.

The goal is to hold an inaugural general meeting for the new integrated sports council on September 10. The integration preparation committee will oversee the reorganization of personnel and the merger of various sports associations to ensure a stable transition.

Simultaneously, the Gwangju and Jeonnam para-sports councils have also begun the integration process. The first administrative integration promotion committee meeting was held to discuss the establishment of a unified para-sports council. The committee, consisting of 15 members including representatives from both regions, the Korea Paralympic Committee, and external experts, has begun reviewing regulations and preparing for the dissolution of the existing organizations to facilitate a seamless merger of professional and lifestyle para-sports services.
