Jeonnam Gwangju City Council resolves departmental dispute

The Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City Council is moving toward resolving a dispute over the allocation of administrative departments among its standing committees. The conflict primarily involved the Future Industry Committee and the Climate Environment and Energy Committee regarding control over key industrial and environmental sectors.

To settle the impasse, Council Speaker Song Hyeong-gon proposed a compromise. Under this plan, the Future Industry Committee will take over the Climate Environment Headquarters and the Waterworks Headquarters. Meanwhile, the Climate Environment and Energy Committee will retain control over the Industrial Innovation Bureau and the Space Advanced Materials Bureau, arguing that industry and environmental policies are closely linked.

The Future Industry Committee has indicated it will accept this mediation. As a result, the council is expected to undergo organizational restructuring, which may include renaming committees to better reflect their new responsibilities. The final decision is expected to be reached following reviews by the Steering Committee and the plenary session on the 7th.
