Jeonnam-Gwangju Council to Develop Democracy History Resources

The Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City Council has launched a research group dedicated to identifying and preserving democracy-related historical resources within the region. The initiative aims to uncover forgotten historical sites, records, and figures that played a role in the area's democratic development.

Beyond simple preservation, the council plans to transform these resources into educational, cultural, and tourism content. This includes developing field trips for students, creating cultural content, and integrating these sites with local tourism to boost the regional economy. The council intends to treat the shared democratic history of Gwangju and Jeonnam as a collective asset for the integrated special city.

Led by Representative Lee Sook-hee, the research group will conduct expert forums, site investigations, and case studies to develop actionable policies that ensure the democratic spirit is passed down to future generations.
