Jeonnam Gwangju develops in-house AI assistant for policy analysis

Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City has developed an in-house ‘AI analysis assistant’ to support civil servants in data analysis and policy formulation. Developed by the Data Analysis Team within the Data Information Officer's office, the generative AI system uses verified basic data and step-by-step prompts to analyze floating populations and credit card spending, even automatically drafting preliminary reports.

The use of AI and data analysis has seen significant growth, with the number of analysis tasks increasing threefold over three years, from 9 cases in 2023 to a projected 27 cases this year. Previous successes include using data to support the necessity of new direct flight routes between Gwangju and Incheon during discussions with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

Upcoming projects for this year include a financial status analysis that combines income, loan, and consumption data across 27 districts to identify financially vulnerable groups and regions. The city is also utilizing telecommunications app usage records to identify patterns such as popular pet walking areas and hidden tourist attractions to inform future urban planning and content development.
