Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City advances budget and restructuring

The Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City administration and council are navigating several key developments following the integration of Jeonnam and Gwangju.

Administrative Vice Mayor Hwang Ki-yeon issued a formal apology to the city council for the urgent submission of the first supplementary budget, noting that the delay in providing materials prevented sufficient review time. In response to council feedback, the city has also revised its local bond issuance plan, removing non-essential projects to focus on critical needs.

Additionally, the city council's Planning and Finance Committee has conditionally passed the first organizational restructuring plan. The approved revision incorporates 15 of the council's 30 requests, including strengthening functions at the Gwangju, Muan, and Eastern offices. The approval is contingent upon the city requesting a Grade 1 director position from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and establishing new director roles under the Vice Mayors for Balanced Development and Industrial Economy.

Separately, the council officially adopted ‘United Strength, a Greater Future!’ as its first legislative slogan, selected through a contest to reflect the identity and vision of the newly integrated special city.
