Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City announces waste facility site recruitment

The Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City has announced its fourth round of public recruitment for the location of a regional waste recovery facility. The recruitment period will run for 60 days, from September 14 to October 12. This move follows the cancellation of a previously selected site that failed to meet application requirements.

The proposed facility is designed to process 650 tons of daily municipal waste. To qualify, applicants must obtain consent from at least 50% of the heads of households residing within 300 meters of the site boundary. The selected district will receive 50 billion won in special support funds along with legal benefits such as resident convenience facilities.

Separately, Mayor Min Hyeong-bae requested government support for the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo during a cabinet meeting. He invited the President to attend the opening ceremony, noting that the expo aims to showcase the ecological and cultural value of islands. Min also proposed expanding AI and data training programs for civil servants to enhance administrative efficiency.
