Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City holds vice-mayor confirmation hearings
The Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City Council has concluded confirmation hearings for two vice-mayor candidates, Yun Nan-sil and Baek Seung-ju.
Yun Nan-sil, the candidate for Citizen Sovereignty Vice Mayor, received a ‘qualified’ opinion from the special committee. While her experience in conflict mediation and administrative consultation was praised, the committee raised concerns regarding the fairness of the citizen recommendation process and her past traffic law violations. Council members also questioned her decision-making criteria when citizen interests conflict with mayoral policies.
Baek Seung-ju, the candidate for Balanced Development Vice Mayor, was recognized for his expertise in finance and budget coordination. However, the committee noted a lack of sufficient understanding regarding key regional issues, such as the semiconductor cluster and public institution relocation. The committee also addressed concerns regarding legal compliance related to his spouse’s land holdings. While the committee did not explicitly state a ‘qualified’ or ‘unqualified’ status for Baek, it noted his willingness to improve his shortcomings.
Mayor Min Hyung-bae is expected to appoint both candidates to their respective positions once the official progress reports are received.
