Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City pursues regulatory and legal reforms
Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City is advancing administrative and regulatory reforms to strengthen its regional status. The city recently selected four outstanding cases of regulatory rationalization following a competitive review process. These successes include recognizing rice diseases as agricultural disasters, extending solar power installation permits in agricultural zones, resolving long-standing land registration issues through collaboration with the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, and easing safety distance regulations for high-pressure gas pipelines in the Yeosu National Industrial Complex.
Simultaneously, the city is working to amend the ‘Special Act for the Establishment of Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City’. To prepare for a proposed submission to the National Assembly by the end of the year, the city is collecting feedback from citizens, experts, and local governments until the 31st. The amendment aims to secure enhanced autonomy, fiscal authority, and special provisions for future growth industries such as semiconductors and energy, as well as improvements in welfare, culture, and transportation.
