Jeonnam-Gwangju secures 5 billion KRW for AI vaccine quality control

Jeonnam-Gwangju has secured 5 billion KRW in national funding for a project to develop AI-driven technology for vaccine manufacturing and quality control. The initiative, selected by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, is part of a larger 7.6 billion KRW research and development program scheduled to run through 2030.

GC Biopharma will lead the project, utilizing its Hwasun plant's mRNA-LNP (messenger RNA-lipid nanoparticle) production infrastructure. The goal is to use artificial intelligence to analyze and predict manufacturing process variations, enabling real-time quality management. GC Biopharma will provide manufacturing data from drug substance (DS) to drug product (DP) stages and verify process reproducibility through GMP-scale production demonstrations.

Collaborating research institutions include Mokpo National University and Daegu Catholic University, which will focus on AI model training and validation, and the Jeonnam Bio Promotion Agency, which will work on establishing predictive models for purification processes. The project aims to strengthen the bio-industry ecosystem in the Hwasun Bio Special Zone by integrating advanced AI manufacturing capabilities.
