Jeonnam-Gwangju seeks 14.4 trillion won budget for AI and semiconductors

The Democratic Party and Jeonnam-Gwangju officials met at the National Assembly to discuss securing a national budget of over 14.4 trillion won for the first year following the launch of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City. The goal is to secure an additional 500 billion won during the parliamentary review process beyond the current 13.9 trillion won government proposal.

Key initiatives include developing a semiconductor cluster in the southwest region and establishing an artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem. Proposed projects include a national AI complex, high-power semiconductor module infrastructure, and the construction of a regional transportation network. The discussions also touched upon local priorities such as a complex dome stadium and a national athlete training center.
