Jeonnam Gwangju strengthens agricultural support and safety
Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City is implementing measures to support and secure the autumn cabbage and eco-friendly agricultural sectors. The city has announced that applications for autumn cabbage crop insurance will be accepted through local agricultural and livestock cooperatives until September 18.
The insurance program offers two types: disaster insurance to cover yield losses from natural disasters, and agricultural income stability insurance to protect against market price drops. To reduce the financial burden on farmers, the city provides up to 90% of the insurance premiums. This initiative is particularly significant as the region holds the largest cabbage cultivation area in South Korea, accounting for approximately 23.5% of the national total.
In conjunction with these support measures, the city is strengthening safety management for eco-friendly agricultural products during the harvest season. In cooperation with the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service, authorities are conducting field inspections to prevent the use of prohibited substances and ensure that pesticide drift from neighboring conventional farms does not contaminate organic crops. Additionally, the city is allocating 810 million won to support residual pesticide testing to ensure only safe products reach consumers.
