JEP defends $56,435 million travel budget amid Senator's criticism
The Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP) has responded to allegations from Senator María Clara Posada regarding the use of $56,435 million in travel and per diem expenses. The JEP clarified that these funds, covering the period from 2018 to July 2026, financed over 21,425 judicial activities across 337 municipalities in 31 departments.
According to the JEP, the breakdown of the disputed amount includes $10,193 million for transfers, $20,501 million for per diems, and $25,425 million for airfare. The entity emphasized that international travel accounted for only 1.04% of the total airfare cost, representing 54 tickets totaling $263.9 million.
Senator Posada, representing the Centro Democrático party, has maintained that her figures are based on official documents from the Electronic System for Public Procurement (Secop). She has criticized the tribunal for what she describes as “judicial tourism” and stated she will present further complaints after failing to receive requested information regarding the specific international movements of magistrates and officials.
