Jep Sepahtu praised for RM1.935 million zakat disclosure

Malaysian Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Dr. Zulkifli Hasan, has praised comedian and former radio presenter Jep Sepahtu (Mohd Nadzri Zainal Abidin) for his transparency regarding religious tithes. Jep Sepahtu revealed records showing he paid approximately RM1.935 million in zakat over a ten-year period from 2016 to 2025.

Dr. Zulkifli described the disclosure as a brave step to defend integrity and transparency while countering various allegations. The Minister noted that such actions by public figures serve as an inspiration to the asnaf (needy) community in the Federal Territory and highlight the importance of fulfilling religious obligations to support socioeconomic justice.

Jep Sepahtu clarified that sharing the payment receipts on social media was intended as evidence to address recent discussions rather than an attempt to boast about the amount paid.
