Jepara authorities launch campaign against illegal cigarettes
The Jepara Regency Government held a socialization event in Tempur Village, Keling District, to combat the circulation of illegal cigarettes. Attended by hundreds of residents, community leaders, and local shop owners, the initiative aims to educate the public on how to identify legal versus illegal tobacco products.
Budhi Sulistyawan, representing the Regional Secretary, emphasized that shop and stall owners play a critical role in preventing the spread of illegal goods, as sellers often target small businesses with promises of low prices. He warned that participating in the sale of illegal cigarettes carries significant legal risks.
Achmad Za'im Wahyudi of the Jepara District Attorney's Office highlighted the severity of excise fraud, noting an ongoing case involving counterfeit excise stamps produced in Kalinyamatan. This specific case has resulted in estimated state losses of Rp165 billion and has drawn the attention of the Director General of Customs and Excise.
