Jeremías Rodríguez seeks Italian diplomatic protection amid legal dispute

Jeremías Rodríguez, an Italian citizen and lawyer, has requested diplomatic assistance and protection from the Italian Embassy in Buenos Aires, claiming he is facing political persecution and judicial harassment.

Rodríguez initiated a federal investigation in December 2024 into the alleged illicit enrichment of Argentine national deputy Cristian Ritondo and his wife, Romina Aldana Diago. Following the complaint, Rodríguez claims he has been subjected to legal actions, including a case for “digital harassment” initiated by the legislator, which he interprets as an attempt to silence him.

In his request to the Italian ambassador, Rodríguez expressed extreme concern for his physical integrity and professional activity, stating, “I do not want to be the next José Luis Cabezas nor end up like Alberto Nisman.” He has asked the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to evaluate mechanisms for protecting its citizens abroad.
