Jeremiah Smith breaks Ohio State career receiving record
Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith set the program’s career receiving yardage record during the Buckeyes’ 59-3 victory over Kent State on Saturday. Smith surpassed the previous mark of 2,898 yards, set by Michael Jenkins between 2000 and 2003, by recording 85 yards on five receptions. He achieved the milestone in just 33 games, bringing his career total to 2,958 yards.
Quarterback Julian Sayin led the offense with 241 passing yards and two touchdowns, while Ja’Kobi Jackson contributed two rushing touchdowns. The win allowed Ohio State to rebound from a previous loss to Texas. Despite the high score, head coach Ryan Day noted areas for improvement, specifically regarding third-down conversions and fourth-quarter execution.
Smith expressed his intention to pursue further records, including Chris Olave’s touchdown record and Emeka Egbuka’s reception record, as he aims to become the first Ohio State receiver to reach 3,000 career yards.
