Jeremy Clarkson claims UK farmers receive no payment for harvested wheat and barley

Former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson, 66, says his Cotswolds property Diddly Squat farm requires 15‑20‑hour workdays in summer yet yields no income from the wheat and barley harvested. He attributes the loss to what he describes as the government’s “strange hatred of farmers”, noting that it would be cheaper for him to take an expensive holiday than to keep the crops.

Clarkson also highlighted the “unpleasant” tasks on the farm, such as sexing rabbits and disposing of dead piglets, and recalled a bovine‑tuberculosis outbreak on the farm last year. He argues that making a profit from food production in Britain is now “impossible”. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has been contacted for comment.
