Jeremy Clarkson discusses future of Clarkson’s Farm and TV industry
Jeremy Clarkson has addressed the future of his series ‘Clarkson’s Farm’ and the broader challenges facing the television industry. Speaking at the Royal Television Society London Convention, Clarkson confirmed that filming for season six has concluded, though the future of a seventh season remains uncertain.
Clarkson expressed concern regarding the stability of the television sector, noting that many producers and crew members are struggling to find work in a fragmented media landscape dominated by social media. He suggested that traditional broadcasters, including the BBC, ITV, Sky, Channel 4, and Channel 5, might eventually need to merge to ensure survival.
To compete with digital content, Clarkson argued that television must focus on ‘event television’ that is ‘bigger, better and more ambitious.’ He noted that niche programming, such as gardening or cooking shows, faces significant difficulty surviving without extraordinary production value due to the accessibility of similar content on social media platforms.
