Jeremy Fears Jr. named preseason National Player of the Year

Michigan State University guard Jeremy Fears Jr. has been named the preseason National Player of the Year by Blue Ribbon College Basketball. Fears enters the upcoming season following a record-breaking year in which he led the country in assists per game with an average of 9.4. He also set a school record with 328 total assists.

The Spartans have begun their first official practices for the 2026-27 season under Head Coach Tom Izzo. While the team faces high expectations, several players are managing health concerns. Guard Kur Teng is returning from offseason foot surgery, and Kaleb Glenn is working to regain his rhythm after missing the previous entire campaign due to a knee injury.
