Jeremy Thomas, acclaimed British film producer, dies at 77

Renowned British independent film producer Jeremy Thomas has died at the age of 77. He passed away peacefully at his home in Oxfordshire on September 11 following a battle with cancer.

Over a career spanning nearly five decades, Thomas produced more than 40 films, including Academy Award-winning ‘The Last Emperor’. His diverse filmography includes works such as ‘Furyo’, ‘Crash’, ‘Only Lovers Left Alive’, and ‘Dogman’. He was known for collaborating with prestigious directors including Bernardo Bertolucci, David Cronenberg, and Jim Jarmusch.

Industry leaders have issued tributes following the announcement. Tom Bernard of Sony Pictures Classics described his accomplishments as ‘extraordinary’, while Amazon acquisitions chief Scott Foundas called him a ‘true maverick among independent producers’. Paul Ridd, head of the Edinburgh Film Festival, noted that his death is an enormous loss to film culture.
