Jerez de la Frontera celebrates 25 years of Ciudad de Jerez awards

The city of Jerez de la Frontera celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Ciudad de Jerez awards during a ceremony at the Museos de la Atalaya. The event, presided over by Mayor María José García-Pelayo and Senate President Pedro Rollán, honored various local collectives, associations, and individuals across nine categories, including sustainability, equality, and culture.

A special anniversary award was presented to composer Manuel Alejandro, who authored the city’s new official anthem, which was also premiered during the ceremony. Other recipients included the municipal public services, entrepreneur Ricardo de Serdio, and the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of the Province of Cádiz.

Parallel to these celebrations, local debate continues regarding the preservation of the city's historical identity. Discussions have emerged concerning the impact of moving the San Dionisio holiday to the Feria del Caballo week, a decision intended to boost the local tourism and hospitality sectors but one that critics argue may distance citizens from the historical significance of the city's patron saint and its 1264 origins.
