Jerez de la Frontera designates polling station members for November 29 elections
The City Council of Jerez de la Frontera held an extraordinary plenary session to conduct a computer-based random draw to designate members for the upcoming general elections on November 29. Mayor María José García-Pelayo presided over the session, which selected 2,547 citizens to serve as presidents, members, and alternates across 283 polling stations and 99 electoral colleges.
With an electoral census of 178,531 voters in the city, each polling station will be staffed by a president and two members, with two alternates designated for each role. Once the selection process is complete, municipal services will begin sending official notifications to the selected individuals.
Serving as a polling station member is mandatory. Citizens have seven days to present documented, justified reasons to the Electoral Board to request an exemption. Valid reasons include being between 65 and 70 years old, having a disability, being on medical leave, or being in advanced stages of pregnancy. Failure to appear without a justified cause is considered an electoral offense under the LOREG, which can result in prison sentences ranging from three months to one year, fines between 1,000 and 7,000 euros, and a criminal record.
