Benejúzar prosecutors investigate waste collection contract
Prosecutors are investigating the household waste collection service in Benejúzar. The Elche-Orihuela Area Prosecutor’s Office has requested documentation from the Benejúzar Town Council to clarify concerns regarding the municipality’s waste management services.
The investigation focuses on the contract awarded in 2018, as well as the approval and payment of invoices submitted by the service provider, Residuos Sólidos Álvarez, during 2026. The current contract, which has been in place since 2018, expired in July 2023 and was extended for 12 months until July 2024.
Mayor Vicente Cases stated that the council will provide all requested information. He noted that while the temporary extension has lasted longer than preferred, the procurement process for a new contract is complex due to its financial scale. Waste collection services will continue without interruption during the investigation and the ongoing process to award a new contract.
