Early July Harvest Begins Across Spain's Jumilla, Jerez and Juvé & Camps Wineries
The 2026 grape harvest in Spain started earlier than usual in several key wine areas. In the DOP Jumilla, Viñedos y Bodegas Asensio Carcelén opened its vineyards on 27 July, marking the earliest recorded start for the region and beginning with the early‑ripening Syrah variety.
Juvé & Camps also began its vendimia in July for the first time in the winery’s history and introduced night harvesting to protect grape quality from daytime heat. The estate expects to collect about 1 million kg of grapes at an average yield of 5 500 kg per hectare.
In the Jerez area, the cooperative Las Angustias of Chipiona started its season with a 500 000 kg intake, reporting an average grape sugar level of 11.7 °Bé. The broader Jerez campaign aims for more than 12 million kg, a noticeable increase over the 2024 harvest of 34.5 million kg that suffered from mildew and extreme summer heat. Favorable winter and spring rains—630 L/m²—have replenished soil moisture, supporting balanced vine development across the regions.
