Jerilderie man pleads guilty to $60,000 property damage and theft

Riley Webb, a 19-year-old from Jerilderie, pleaded guilty in Albury Local Court to charges of breaking and entering a house, destroying property, and theft. The incident occurred on December 21, 2024, after Webb's mother became involved in a rental bond dispute with a property owner.

Acting while intoxicated, Webb caused more than $60,000 in damages to a vacant rental house on Bunyola Boulevard. He also stole camping equipment and $1,500 in cash belonging to the owner's daughter, who had been camping at the property to monitor it. While some stolen items were recovered near a local cemetery, the cash remains missing.

Defense counsel argued the actions were out of character and noted Webb serves as a full-time carer for his disabled father. Judge Sally McLaughlin described the incident as a “serious matter” due to the scale of the damage and theft, though she acknowledged positive character references provided for the defendant.
