Jermaine Dupri settles $18M royalty lawsuit with Sony Music

Jermaine Dupri and his So So Def companies have voluntarily dismissed an $18 million royalty lawsuit against Sony Music Entertainment. The legal dispute, which was filed in July, centered on allegations that Sony underreported and failed to properly account for royalties and producer fees over a decades-long business relationship.

The claims involved several high-profile artists associated with Dupri, including Mariah Carey, Usher, Kris Kross, Xscape, Da Brat, Jagged Edge, and Bow Wow. One significant portion of the lawsuit alleged that Sony failed to properly report producer and override royalties for Kris Kross’s first two albums, claiming over $2 million was still owed.

While the lawsuit has been dismissed without prejudice, the specific terms of the resolution remain confidential. Neither Dupri nor Sony Music has disclosed whether a financial settlement was reached.
