Jermall Charlo targets super‑middleweight title fight against Jaime Munguia
Undefeated former middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (34‑0) is preparing for a comeback bout against Koen Mazoudier on July 25 in Sydney, Australia. The fight will be on the undercard of Errol Spence Jr. vs. Tim Tszyu. Charlo says a victory would set up a move to the 168‑pound division to challenge WBA super‑middleweight champion Jaime Munguia.
Charlo, 36, has fought only twice since June 2021, defeating Jose Benavidez Jr. in November 2023 and Thomas LaManna in May 2025. He expressed to The Ring that a fight with Munguia would be “a good fight for me” and could give him a chance to become a three‑division world champion. Munguia, a Mexican fighter, captured the WBA super‑middleweight title earlier this year and is seen as a leading name in the division. Charlo’s next steps depend on a successful return and subsequent negotiations with Munguia’s camp.
