Jerry Lawler honored with street renaming in Memphis

Memphis has honored professional wrestling legend Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler by honorarily renaming a section of Homer Street after him. The ceremony, held at Treadwell High School, celebrated Lawler’s deep ties to the city and his decades-long career in the wrestling industry.

The Memphis City Council originally approved the tribute in June. During the event, Lawler was joined by his son Kevin, Jimmy Hart, and longtime announcer Dave Brown. Lawler noted the personal significance of the location, citing many childhood memories of playing on the nearby baseball and football fields.

Lawler, a WWE Hall of Famer, was a central figure in the Memphis wrestling territory era, serving as an in-ring star, booker, and co-owner. Dave Brown remarked on Lawler’s rise from a local attraction to an international figure, noting his lasting impact on the sport.
