Jerry Masslo Award returns to Villa Literno
The seventh edition of the Jerry Masslo Award will take place from October 1 to 3 in Villa Literno and Caserta. Organized by FLAI CGIL, the event focuses on human rights, dignified labor, and civil memory.
The award commemorates Jerry Essan Masslo, a South African refugee and agricultural worker who was murdered in the countryside of Villa Literno in August 1989. Masslo has become a national symbol in Italy for the struggle against labor exploitation and the fight for migrant rights.
The program includes public meetings and a traditional commemoration at the Villa Literno cemetery. This year's theme explores the transition “from the Europe of rights to that of repatriations,” addressing current debates on migration policies, asylum, and social marginalization.
