Jerry Sandusky Penn State sexual abuse scandal overview

A 2011 grand jury report revealed that former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky sexually abused at least eight young boys over a period of 15 years. The number of identified victims later increased to 10. The investigation indicated that Penn State officials failed to notify law enforcement after learning of some of the incidents. Sandusky was found guilty in 2012.

Following the scandal, The Second Mile, a non-profit organization founded by Sandusky in 1977, sought to transfer its programs to Arrow Child & Family Ministries and shut down. This process included requests to stay the transfer to ensure pending or future claims from victims could be resolved before assets were moved. By March 2016, the organization had been dismantling and distributing its assets.
