Jerry Sandusky to return to court following accuser's recantation

A Pennsylvania judge has scheduled an evidentiary hearing for September 8 in Bellefonte to address claims that an accuser of former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky intends to recant his testimony.

Sandusky, 82, is currently serving a 30-to-60-year prison sentence following his 2012 conviction on 45 counts of child sexual abuse. The accuser, identified in court documents as R. R. (or Victim 10), filed a sworn affidavit alleging that he was extensively coached by investigators and prosecutors. According to the affidavit, authorities suggested that trauma could have fragmented his memory and encouraged him to affirm details he did not clearly recall.

Sandusky’s legal team is using this recantation to support a petition for a new trial, alleging that prosecutors used questionable tactics to influence witness testimony. The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office plans to address these allegations during the upcoming hearing. While Sandusky has consistently maintained his innocence, the court must now determine if the new claims warrant further legal action or a new trial.
